ISIS and Traveling – Where Will You Go?

ISIS AND TRAVELING…WILL YOU STILL TRAVEL OR DOES FEAR KEEP YOU AT HOME??

It infuriates me that ISIS has control over where people travel to simply by creating fear in us…we certainly are not going to book travel to a place where we could be blown up.

We have no idea when this whole mess will be over maybe not for another 20 years, so that means visiting foreign countries will get more and more dangerous.  Will I ever get to take my family to Turkey or visit the Egyptian temples??  The world is always a dangerous place as terrorist have always existed, but there is just something about our era that makes it feel especially threatening.

ISIS’ global reach extends further than we all think and will probably continue to expand, according to a article written by Jethro Mullen a year ago, How Far Does ISIS’ Global Reach Extend, CNN predicted some of the expansion correctly, “ISIS’ recent call for attacks against Western citizens singled out what it called “the spiteful and filthy French” for punishment.

The article highlights specific countries where ISIS influence already is and where it is gaining popularity.  One that truly breaks my heart is Indonesia, but then again it is the most populous Muslim country in the world so why wouldn’t they target the peaceful nation??

The support in Indonesia increases the risk of violence there, potentially directed at foreigners, according to the Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict, which is based in Jakarta.

“The overall capacity of Indonesian extremists remains low, but their commitment to ISIS could prove deadly,” said Sidney Jones, director of the institute.

The danger is that Indonesians fighting in Syria and Iraq will return home with “the training, combat experience, and leadership potential now lacking in Indonesia’s extremist community,” the institute said in a report on ISIS in Indonesia.

But the report said that many Muslims in Indonesia have strongly rejected ISIS’ actions.

“ISIS has triggered a bigger backlash than ever seen before in the Indonesian Muslim community, suggesting that support will stay limited to a fringe of the radical fringe,” it said.  ~Source

ISIS AND TRAVELING….I AM NOT SCARED BECAUSE I AM INFORMED.

I believe the best way to protect ourselves against terrorist attacks is to be educated on which countries pose the most dangerous threats so we can avoid putting ourselves in immediate danger.

I do have a friend who just visited Turkey and she said, “you would never have known the country was going through such upheaval because we were on the opposite side of Turkey….no signs of ISIS where we were.”  She is very brave and I commend her for not letting a terrorist group stop her from achieving her dreams.  She most definitely followed the traveler’s hack by booking a vacation to a country that is in distress for a cheaper vacation!

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT ISIS AND TRAVELING??

My advice to you and myself is to choose countries to travel too that have low levels of ISIS activities – keep enjoying the world as an educated traveler.
