LETS HONOR VETERANS, NOT FEEL SORRY FOR THEM, BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THE TRUE HOLIDAY IS ABOUT…SHOWING THANKS.
United Military Travel hears military spouses talk about what they want the most for their vets and the answer is always the same, “I wish people would show them respect everyday not just on November 11 because it is everyday that they have their freedom for what my husband/wife has done for the country.”
We cannot change the world, but we CAN try to live in a way that is honorable, thankful, and respectful and raise our family to do the same. We have much to be thankful for and much of it is owed to the service men and women who protect our country…and that is something we should show thanks for each and everyday!
USE THESE 5 WAYS TO HONOR VETERANS ALL YEAR LONG!
SHOW LOVE. SHOW THANKFULNESS. GIVE A HUG.
I can’t tell you how powerful a real embrace is, one that leaves you feeling loved. When you see a veteran, approach them, tell them thank you and then wrap your arms around them tight. You never know, that may just be the one thing they have been looking for.
VOLUNTEER AT THE VETERAN COMMUNITY IN YOUR AREA
Everyone should volunteer somewhere all year long, but to many people the idea of giving their time freely is just repulsive. Volunteering to honor veterans is one of the most fantastic ways you can reach out to them and say thank you. Whip up a batch of your famous homemade bread, bring cookies, or a delicious crock pot and you will see their faces light up like a little kid on Christmas! What better way to break the ice with someone than by breaking bread with them – good conversation and a full belly is worth more than a million dollars! Also, those are two things we take for granted but are the most desired by the needed. Volunteer a couple times a year to give back…it doesn’t take much!
CONNECT WITH YOUR VETERAN
If you are a spouse, sibling, cousin, mother, son, or any family member of a veteran reach out to them. Make them feel special. This should be done each and everyday, but in case it is not do not let another Veteran’s Day go by that you do not show your thanks. Family is the most important thing anyone has and should be the one thing we can always, always count on. If your vet is struggling find them, make mends, love them and all their flaws, and commit yourself to helping them however you can. After all, veteran’s sacrificed themselves so we all could live freely….we owe them so much!
HONOR THE FALLEN
We’ve all been touched by the loss of a friend or loved one in the military family. Take the time to honor especially these veterans of war who’ve fought for our country and who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice. Visit their family, or donate to organizations like TAPS, Fisher House or Folds of Honor that support families of fallen soldiers.
We all know that the best way to educate a child on a subject is by starting early. Start teaching your children the difference between Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day, explain to them how they can show thanks, and what exactly it means to be Veteran and why we should honor them all year long.
UNITED MILITARY TRAVEL LIVES BY THE MOTTO, “PROUD TO SERVE THOSE WHO SERVE” BY OFFERING THE BEST SERVICES IN OUR INDUSTRY TO HELP OUR SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE.
THIS VETERAN’S DAY AND ALL YEAR LONG WE ARE THANKFUL!
